O’Malley defeated Vera via TKO in 2020 following an ankle injury, and he did so on the scorecards, 50-45, 50-45, and 50-44, to win his maiden championship defence and erase one of the few blemishes on his professional MMA career.
At the very end of the bout, Vera got Sean O’Malley with a body shot that seemed to seriously injure the champion. But for the next twenty-five minutes, O’Malley dominated his opponent, and it was evident that the decisions and scoring were in favour of Suga.

Vera swiftly took advantage of this vulnerability and submitted O’Malley via TKO. Chito was the first and only fighter to use ground maneuvers to take out Suga in the first frame. O’Malley has now exacted his retribution. However, it will be fascinating to watch if Sean O’Malley defeats El Matador, as that would need Suga to gain weight.
