The Bantamweight division is probably the most loaded division in the UFC, with Sean O’Malley as the undisputed champion. O’Malley last fought and beat up Marlon Vera in a rather impressive manner throughout five rounds in the main event of UFC 299.
The striking specialist made it clear a few weeks back that he wants to be an active champion in the company and recently opened up about the possibility of being featured in the UFC 306 in the near future.
Sean O’Malley on his next fight date
When he’s not fighting in the cage, the Bantamweight King is often found on his podcast alongside Tim Welch. Sean O’Malley called out many fighters in the post-fight interview after his victory against Marlon Vera. Still, he later admitted that Merab Dvalishvili is the most deserving candidate for the next title fight. On the possibility of fighting in the UFC 306, Sean said,
I was pushinh for it (The Los Angeles Sphere) heavily then I kinda slowed down pushing for it. The I was like UFC is going to do whatever the f**k UFC wants to do so let me know,
Sean O’Malley made it clear that nothing is finalized about when and where to fight next. Rumors were going around on social media claiming that Sean might take on Merab in the famous Los Angeles sphere in the upcoming months. O’Malley quickly squashed those rumors, claiming he had no idea what the company would do next. He clarified that if any developments occurred, his entourage would know first.
It was rumored that Dvalishvili would face Sean in the main event of UFC 306 in Los Angeles. The champ confirmed that taking on Merab will not be a menial task, as the Georgian carries a heavy wrestling pedigree with him in the cage.
