Ever since losing his middleweight title to Sean Strickland at the UFC 293, Israel Adesanya had been on an extended break. However, he is now all set to make a return at the UFC 305 to face Dricus du Plessis for the same gold again. At the same time, fans may wonder what ‘The Last Stylebender’ was doing during his hiatus. So, his fellow compatriot Dan Hooker opened up about the former’s routine.
Home of Fight, a popular MMA page on social media, shared a video of Hooker being honest about Adesanya’s recent physique transformation. He pressed on the fact that ‘The Last Stylebender’ fought around five times a year as a champion. That certainly gave the latter a lesser chance to train, but the extended break helped him improve physically.
“He is just looking scary now… He’s hitting harder than he’s ever hit before. He’s got some kind of new strength and power. I guess he just didn’t have the time to do it [to lift weights]. He was fighting as a champion 5 times a year,” said Hooker.
Hooker also added that Adesanya had no time to lift weights when he was a champion. However, after he went on an 11-month hiatus, ‘The Last Stylebender’ focused on training his strength.
“Obviously, he didn’t have the time to lift weights and focus on strength training. So yeah, for him to have some more time to add a bit more size to his frame, it has really positively impacted his performance,” Hooker concluded.
Notably, Hooker and Adesanya trained together in their early years under Eugene Bareman at City Kickboxing, Auckland. So, it is quite obvious that they know a lot about themselves.
