Arman Tsarukyan displayed an impressive performance when he took on Charles Oliveira in the UFC 300 main card. Tsarukyan has been on an impressive four-fight win streak in the UFC and has beaten some of the company’s biggest names. The Armenians are all set to fight for the title before the year ends. The UFC gave Arman an offer to fight for the UFC gold, but the Armenian had a rather peculiar reason to pull out of the fight.
Tsarukyan couldn’t win the night fight or the performance of the night accolades, all thanks to the BMF bout.
Arman Tsarukyan reveals his reason for not taking the title fight
Arman Tsarukyan is one of the top contenders in the lightweight division of the UFC. The UFC recently announced that Lightweight champion Islam Makhachev is set to defend his title against Dustin Poirier in June. Arman revealed that the title bout was offered him instead of Dustin Poirier first. Tsarukyan had to reject the offer for his reasons. On getting asked why he rejected the title fight, he revealed,
If it was the end of June I would take that fight. Why do I have to take the same risk as the first fight, which was also short notice? I want to be ready. And I want to have a full training camp. Why do I have to take te risk if I am the number one contender.
Arman Tsarukyan clarified that he does not want to fight for the title once more on short notice. He previously took on Islam in a three-round bout a couple of years back on short notice and lost via a close decision. Tsarukyan already made a mistake once and is not going to repeat it. He clarified that he would not take a title championship bout on short notice as he might never get the opportunity again.
Arman has improved massively in the past few years, and Armenians are as tough as men can get. If Islam is to defend the title against Poirier, it will be interesting to see who the better man is between Islam and Arman if they ever scrap in the middle of the octagon. Let’s see how the top of the lightweight division shapes up in the upcoming few months.
