Renato Moicano was preparing for a three round fight at UFC 311. Suddenly, he was struck by unexpected news. With Arman Tsarukyan pulling out of his championship bout, ‘Money’ Moicano was the chosen one to replace him. While this was one of his life’s biggest opportunities, the expectations were sky-high. Unfortunately, things didn’t turn out in the manner that Moicano wanted.
While the Brazilian started off quite fluently, he could not keep up the pressure. Initially, Moicano managed to drop Islam Makhachev in the first round. But shrugging off initial jitters, Makhachev ended things quickly with a D’Arce choke. However, despite the loss, Moicano seems to be a winner on the financial front. In a recent episode of the ‘Show Me The Pod’ podcast, Moicano revealed that he got over $950,000 from the bout.

‘Money’ Moicano also mentioned that the bout sold even more PPVs once the Armenian fighter was ruled out. Surely, these were some of the caveats that Moicano will be taking back from his unexpected title bout opportunity. But he also detailed how the UFC 311 bout made him realize his true star power.
Renato Moicano Doubles Down On Realizing His True Popularity
Moicano might not have gotten his name on the UFC lightweight champion belt, but the exposure and experience he gained were invaluable. In fact, the overwhelming response from the fans during the post-fight presser was enough for him to realize Moicano’s strong connection with the audience.
“One thing I realized and I didn’t know about is that I am very popular. I went to a press conference and was surprised. Because soon I was walking to the place everyone was screaming ‘Money.’ And all the time I was talking they were screaming so I was surprised,” Moicano stated.
