Renato Moicano is quickly becoming a sensation in the lightweight division, not only due to his trash-talking abilities but also because of the finishes he’s delivered in the UFC. As Moicano’s ranking has steadily risen with each victory, he’s recently declared himself the best fighter in the division. However, despite this bold claim, ‘Money’ Moicano also stated that he would avoid fighting Dustin Poirier.
Dustin Poirier, a former Interim UFC Lightweight Champion, has also challenged for the UFC Lightweight Championship three times. Undoubtedly, ‘Diamond’ is one of the best fighters in the division. Poirier and Moicano are teammates, having trained together in the same camp and sparred in the gym. Recently, ‘Money’ Moicano explained why he doesn’t want to face Poirier in the octagon. During an appearance on The Ariel Helwani Show, Moicano said:
“What’s the point of signing the contract of fighting a guy that beats me up in the gym? So there is no point on that. On my mind, I’m the best fighter in the lightweight division. I can beat anybody. I just cannot beat Dustin Poirier. The rest; I can beat everybody in this division.”
Moicano and Poirier have both trained at the renowned American Top Team (ATT) camp in Florida. The two have sparred in the past, with Moicano admitting that he was bested during their session. Despite his reluctance to face “The Diamond,” Moicano delivered an impressive performance in his last fight against Benoit Saint-Denis.
