Islam Makhachev thinks he will win the UFC 302 match. He believes that Dustin Poirier is not a good stylistic fit for him and that defeating “The Diamond” next month will be “easy.”
The Dagestani acknowledged his opponent as a “warrior” and a legend in the sport, but he also revealed a weakness:
“[Dustin’s] problem is his style. That’s one problem the guy has. His weak point is wrestling and grappling,”
Poirier is considered a well-rounded fighter who is firm on the ground and an excellent striker—one area in which Makhachev shines.
Islam Makhacheb added: “My style and Khabib’s style is worst for Dustin. People who can take him down, hold him there, always give him problems.“

Dustin Poirier’s career appeared limbo after losing to Justin Gaethje at UFC 291 last year. In the UFC’s competitive and heavily packed featherweight division, “Diamond” was expected to face a difficult road back to a title chance.
But after he shocked everyone by knocking out dangerous lightweight prospect Benoit Saint-Denis at UFC 299 last month, his fortunes took a sharp turn. Unusually for him, Poirier, who is nearly exclusively a striker, tried many guillotine chokes on the Frenchman during the fight despite the advice of his corner.
In a recent interview, Islam Makhachev hinted that he would be prepared to use Poirier’s guillotines in the event if their UFC 302 match came down to it.
“I defend my neck. I am ready for your guillotine. That’s why it won’t happen in our fight, but I will be ready,”
