Sean O’Malley and Marlon ‘Chito’ Vera headlined the UFC 299 this month. It turned out to be a pretty one-sided fight as Sean touched up Chito from the outside throughout the course of five rounds. Sean O’Malley defended his belt in a rather dominant fashion.
Sean O’Malley’s head coach Tim Welch had a reason to celebrate as Sean was holding the belt after the five rounds. Welch heaped some heavy praise on the Ecuadorian.
Tim Welch praises Marlon Vera on his durability
Marlon Vera ate all kinds of shots from the champion at UFC 299. He was also able to withstand a precise knee to his jaw. Vera’s toughness is unmatched and his chin is probably made of granite. Tim Welch in an interview given recently said,
He stuck in there. 99.99 percent of people would have looked for a way out. Especially how hard Sean was digging his body in the fight and he hung in there. Tough dude. Props to him.
Welch was impressed by Marlon Vera’s ability to stand and take damage. Vera still holds the bragging rights for never being knocked down or knocked out. Marlon had his face swollen up after his bout with Sean O’Malley. Tim Welch made it clear that although Vera is a tough fighter he’s still as slow as anyone can get. Tim was clearly not impressed with the speed of the South American.
Vera might want to rack up some wrestling skills if he wants to get a shot at the title once more before he calls it a career. Many will agree Vera was a stationary target. He made it quite easy for Sean to do his thing and take over the fight by his elite kickboxing. It’ll be interesting to see if we’ll see a change in the fight plan of Marlon in his next matchup.

Even Dana White said that he’ll need to match make his fight in a rather smart manner so he can have a fair chance to stay in the division. Given the amount of damage he has incurred in the fight it remains highly unlikely that he fights in the next few months.
