Belal Muhammad has won the most fights in the octagon lately in the Welterweight division. Leon Edwards holds the crown at Welterweight. Belal has been after Leon for quite some time now. Belal has called out the Englishman many times now to no avail. But recently, Leon’s head coach gave his take on a possible fight between the two and levied some harsh allegations against Leon Edwards. Belal Muhammad took notice of his statement and lashed back at him.
Leon and Belal fought in the octagon three years ago, ending in a no-contest. Since then, the two have been on impressive win streaks.
Belal Muhammad lashes out at Leon Edwards’ coach
Dave Lovell is one of the most respected coaches in the UFC, and his protege Leon Edwards defied the odds when he beat out the pound-for-pound king Kamaru Usman and acquired the UFC Gold. He claimed that Belal was looking for a way out in his bout against Leon Edwards and said that he would have been finished in the second round if the fight had continued. Muhammad was certainly not happy with the claims and said,
Remember this statement after round four and Leon is looking for your motivational speech after I have slapped around him for twenty minutes.
Belal clarified that if he takes on Leon again for the title, he’ll beat Leon Edwards brutally. He will need Lovell’s inspiration and motivation. Belal is confident in his grappling ability to take Loen down and inflict heavy damage on his opponent on the ground. Although Leon holds a black belt in Jiu-Jitsu, he is a natural striker and will be willing to knock out Leon in their five-round fight.
Belal Muhammad is a wrestler from the same camp as the famed fighters Daniel Cormier and Khabib Nurmagomedov. It’s pretty natural for Belal to be an elite wrestler. He out-wrestled his former opponent and Jiu-Jitsu world champion Gilbert Burns. It’ll be interesting to see if Belal can nullify Leon Edwards’s precision inside the UFC cage and complete his career objective of winning the UFC gold.
