Another day brings more legal drama in the MMA world. While UFC lawsuits often grab headlines, this time the big story is coming from a rival promotion. Former UFC fighter Gegard Mousasi has filed a complaint against Bellator and PFL, alleging they broke their contract and acted unfairly, resulting in unfair treatment and financial losses.
Reportedly, Mousasi, the former Bellator middleweight champion has filed an 81-page lawsuit in New Jersey against Bellator MMA and its new owners at the Professional Fighters League (PFL). In the lawsuit he drags Donn Davis, Peter Murray, and Mike Kogan, who was also a matchmaker at Bellator.
In his lawsuit, Mousasi says he signed an eight-fight contract with Bellator in 2020 that paid him $150,000 for each fight. After four fights, his pay would increase to $200,000, plus an extra $600,000 promotional fee for each fight, making it a total of $800,000 per fight. Additionally, he also claims he was supposed to get a $50,000 bonus for winning by knockout or submission, but he never received it.
And now Mousasi is going for $15 million in damage. He believes that because of his high contract of $800,000, PFL kept him from competing and earning.
