Umar Nurmagomedov has been tearing through the bantamweight division. He is undefeated, dominant, and arguably the next big thing in the bantamweight division. But Petr Yan is not buying the hype.
The former bantamweight champion just threw some serious shade at rising star Umar Nurmagomedov. Yan is known for his striking prowess and slick combos. He recently dropped a truth bomb that’s got the MMA world buzzing.
“No, I don’t see anything special. Yes, he is strong, young, and he keeps winning fights, but call him special? No, I don’t think so. Four years ago, I was doing as great as he is now. I didn’t see any threat in any of them and was ready to fight three opponents on the same night,” said Yan via Ushatayka YT.
Yan pointed out that Umar struggled against top competition like Cory Sandhagen. Yan was not stopping there, though. He’s throwing it back to his own glory days, saying he was just as impressive as Umar four years ago.
Umar Nurmagomedov is still a force to be reckoned with. But Yan has a point, as nobody is invincible in the UFC, and even the scariest monsters have weaknesses. The current state of the bantamweight division rests on the UFC 306 event. It will decide the future dynamics of the division.

Petr Yan wants to fight, none other than, former flyweight champ Deiveson Figueiredo. He took to social media to call out the “God Of War.”
“Time to shake up the division. Where you at, @Daico_Deiveson?” wrote Yan via X.
Figueiredo recently made the jump to bantamweight, and he has been making waves. Three fights and three wins since then. This potential matchup could act as a possible title eliminator for the bantamweight belt. The clash of styles could make it a fan-friendly fight with Yan’s crisp boxing versus Figueiredo’s wild, unpredictable striking.
