The main card of ‘Battle of Giants’ opened with a lightweight bout between Paul Hughes and AJ McKee. However, Bellator’s McKee suffered a major setback as Hughes ended the fight in the first round with a powerful knee and follow-up punches, knocking McKee down just before the bell. In the aftermath of this exciting matchup, Hughes expressed his desire to have UFC star Conor McGregor in his corner for his next title fight.
After dominating Bellator’s former featherweight champion, Hughes wasted no time in calling out Usman Nurmagomedov. During his post-fight interview, he challenged the reigning Bellator lightweight champion, Usman Nurmagomedov. Being from Ireland, Hughes also called on Irish superstar Conor McGregor to be in his corner for the fight. In the interview, he said,
“Someone clip this, Conor, I want you in my corner for that fight, 100 per cent, how cool would that be? We might need some extra security that night, Oscar talk to the man. We might need some more security but I’m down for it, I think it would be fun.”
Fans last saw McGregor in a cornering role at Bellator in June, where he supported fellow Irish fighter Sinead Kavanagh, who competes in the Bellator MMA Featherweight division. After Hughes called out McGregor to corner him, the Irish star responded, saying he would be there to support Hughes in a potential fight against Usman.
Conor McGregor Confirms Support for Paul Hughes Ahead of Potential Usman Nurmagomedov Fight
After his dominant win over AJ McKee, Paul Hughes wasted no time calling out Usman Nurmagomedov during the post-fight conference, challenging the current Bellator lightweight champion. When a reporter mentioned that Khabib Nurmagomedov would be in Usman’s corner, Hughes stated that he wanted McGregor in his corner, referencing the famous McGregor vs. Khabib rivalry. The former two-division champion acknowledged Hughes’ callout and responded on X (in a now deleted tweet), writing:
“Paul my man I will go to the arena and support 100 per cent for sure. And if it kicks off I’ll be in there before you could even say ‘the nurgamedovs are juice head inbred rats married to their cousins’. Your team and corner have done a tremendous job with you! They will take you all the way! You’ve got this! We are with you brother, bring home the Gold!”

Fans would undoubtedly go wild if they saw both McGregor and Khabib in opposing corners, potentially reigniting their old rivalry. However, the fight between Hughes and Usman has yet to be confirmed, so fans will have to wait for an official announcement before the possibility of seeing McGregor and Khabib face off in the corners again becomes a reality.
