Kayla Harrison’s journey in combat sports reads like a Hollywood script. From Olympic judo gold to MMA stardom, she’s now eyeing UFC gold. But, she is not just content with her scheduled bout against Ketlen Vieira at UFC 307. She’s got bigger plans brewing. The two-time Olympic champion is ready to step up as a backup for the co-main event bantamweight title fight.
In a recent interview with MMA Fighting, Harrison declared that she was willing to be the backup fighter for the bantamweight title fight. She even went on to say she needed no prior notice to take either one of the girls fighting in the co-main event.
“If I have to step in on short notice and fight, I will, absolutely. One thousand percent. On 30 seconds’ notice, I will step [in]. Even after I fight Ketlen, if someone gets hurt in the back, I will still fight that fight.”
Kayla Harrison’s readiness speaks volumes about her dedication and ambition. She is not just showing up to fight Vieira. She’s mentally prepared for a title shot on the same night. And she is not wrong for having such confidence. Her debut in the UFC couldn’t have gone any better.
Harrison is not overlooking Vieira, though. She respects her opponent’s skills. But there’s an undeniable hunger for something bigger. She believes she is on a different level and will fight tooth and nail to get that UFC gold.

It seems the retired double champ has been running her mouth about Harrison’s team. Kayla Harrison revealed that she had no personal issues with Nunes but will not tolerate disrespect of her teammates.
“Have no beef with Amanda. Listen, the only problem I have with Amanda is she talks s**t about [my team]… Like, personally, I think she’s great, but don’t talk s**t about my team,” said Harrison via John Morgan.
Harrison is not pulling any punches with her words. She’s direct, unapologetic, and fiercely protective of her people. It’s that same intensity that’s made her a force to be reckoned with in the cage.
