After months of anticipation, fans finally received some solid updates on the Islam Makhachev vs. Arman Tsarukyan fight. The Nurmagomedov MMA School announced that Makhachev will face Tsarukyan at UFC 311 in Los Angeles on January 18. This bout will mark the first pay-per-view event of 2025 and promises to be thrilling, as Makhachev defends his lightweight title in this highly anticipated rematch.
The lightweight champion has been absent from the Octagon since his June matchup with Dustin Poirier at UFC 302. Makhachev also sustained a major injury, including a significant partial ligament tear in his hand, which caused further delays.
However, it appears the two fighters have now reached an agreement to face off in January. Nurmagomedov MMA School shared an Instagram post unveiling a fight poster for Makhachev vs. Tsarukyan 2, with the caption confirming they will headline UFC 311 early next year, in 2025.
The Armenian fighter secured a UFC title shot after a split-decision victory over Charles Oliveira in April at UFC 300. With this title opportunity, several UFC stars believe that Tsarukyan has the potential to defeat Makhachev.
