After winning the UFC 302 against Dustin Poirier, Islam Makhachev fits in—in the most terrifying way imaginable. By simply crushing his opponents instead of projecting an air of pompous trash talk, Makhachev became the UFC’s best pound-for-pound fighter.
His smothering grappling is where it all begins. Wrestlers are utterly outmatched against his jujitsu on the mat, while pure strikers have little chance of succeeding against his technique in the clinch. His stand-up routine has improved recently, going from passable to lethal.
Islam Makhachev ensured that Dustin Poirier’s record as the greatest UFC fighter never to hold an undisputed title stood on Saturday night at UFC 302 at the Prudential Center by submitting him in the fifth round to keep the lightweight title.
In front of an audience that fervently wanted to see Poirier realize his dream, Makhachev faced a formidable opponent who did everything he could to depose the UFC’s top pound-for-pound fighter.
Dana White Calls Jon Jones The Best Fighter
UFC President Dana White recently went on the attack, saying that no one can challenge Jon Jones as the world’s top pound-for-pound fighter as long as Islam Makhachev still competes.
Makhachev, the current UFC lightweight Champion, defeated Dustin Poirier in the fifth round of their recent title defense at UFC 302. White quickly refutes assertions that Makhachev is the world’s finest fighter regarding power per unit of battle despite his impressive victory.

As per a recent post on Championship Rounds on their social media platform X, it said, “Dana White: “For anybody to call Islam the pound for pound best fighter in the world when Jon Jones is still f***ing fighting is nuts and shouldn’t be ranking in the pound for pound or doing any of the f***ing rankings ever.”
White’s remarks coincide with Jon Jones’s preparations to return to the Octagon. Jones is recognized as one of the best mixed martial artists ever. Jones is anticipated to resume training soon after undergoing two surgeries.
