The Lightweight division of the UFC seems like a tricky place to be given the amount of competition that particular division has. Many will agree if its labelled as the toughest division in the UFC. Makes sense that Islam Makhachev is the pound-for-pound king in the rankings. Number thirteen ranked lightweight contender Renato Moicano is one of the fortunate ones to get a chance at UFC’s landmark event in UFC 300. But as it turns out he will not be fighting on the main card given the amount of big that are taking place in the event.
Renato Moicano expresses his displeasure
Lightweight contender Renato Moicano sat down with celebrated journalist Ariel Helwani and gave his take on the upcoming bout against the sharp striker in Jalin Turner. As it turns out Moicano is getting featured in the early prelims. Moicano said,
It’s not the place I want to be but it’s a good place even though I don’t like, it’s a good place.
Renato Moicano did not shy away from claiming that he’s not satisfied because he’s getting featured in the early prelims of the UFC 300. Although he later admitted that he’s way to lower ranked to be on the main card given the company has selected all the big names for the landmark event. Moicano is a fifteen fight veteran in the UFC and has gone to win last four of last five fights in the lightweight division.
The first fight of the landmark in the main card happens to be Figueredo and Cody. Both former champions taking place with Alex Pereira and Jamahal Hill leading the main card. Renato Moicano will need to be higher on the rankings to etch his place amongst the elite. He also later admitted in the interview that it will be tough for UFC 300 to match the entertainment value of its predecessor UFC 299.
Only time will tell if Moicano can get the job done so he will be featured only on the main card in the future. Renato Moicano is going to have an uphill task as he preapares to face a stellar striker in Jalin Turner next month.
