The UFC has many great fighters. However, the Lightweight king Islam Makhachev has dominated the pound-for-pound ranking. Islam recently beat Dustin Poirier in the fifth round of the fight to retain the Lightweight strap in the promotion. Makhachev continued his reign as the number one pound-for-pound fighter in the company.
His manager, Ali Abdelaziz, opened on the same recently in an interview.
Team Khabib on Islam Makhachev’s Reign as Pound-for Pound King
Islam Makhachev has completed three title defenses in the UFC. However, there were some experts, including UFC President Dana White, who claimed that Heavyweight champion Jon Jones is still the reigning P4P fighter in the company. But recently, Ali Abdelaziz, Islam’s manager, pressed on the fact that Islam is the rightful king of the pound-for-pound rankings. Ali said,
If anyone deserves its one hundred percent Islam.
Ali clarified that Islam deserves the title more than any other fighter in the UFC. Islam has beaten every major lightweight in the world, including Oliveira and Tsarukyan. He has finished every fighter he has faced in the past five years in the UFC. Makhachev also claimed in the post-fight press conference of UFC 302 that he saved the boring card. Dana White believes that Jones deserves the spot of the pound-for-pound king.
Ali Abdelaziz made it clear that Islam Makhachev is the rightful king of the UFC above the Heavyweight crown prince. Makhachev is all set to take on Arman Tsarukyan next, whereas Jones is all set to prepare for Stipe Miocic. It will be interesting to see who ends the year as the pound-for-pound king in the UFC.
