It’s been quite a long since Conor McGregor last stepped foot inside the UFC Octagon. While he did sign up for a bout against Michael Chandler at UFC 303, an unexpected injury ruled him out of the match. If the ‘Mac’ had fought on June 30, it would have marked his return to the MMA circuit after over three long years.
Recently, McGregor received a reply from Chandler on his Donald Trump support X post. Thereafter, he again replied to Chandler and wrote, “I talked to Dana today about our new date, all looking good! 24’ for sure.“ This actually spurred buzz among combat sports fans, who were equally supportive and sarcastic of the Mac.
Fans Not Really Sure of Conor McGregor’s UFC Return
A toe injury hindered The Mac’s return to the UFC cage ahead of his clash against Chandler. Recalling his UFC 303 opponent’s sarcastic comment, a fan questioned, “oh 2024… you’re going to fight for sure?? No pinky toe pullout?”
“That’s unless Dustin catches you somewhere first. You’ll have more injuries,” a fan wrote, pressing on the fact that McGregor has been absent from the octagon for the last three years. Interestingly, after his second bout against Dustin Poirier at the UFC 264, the Mac picked up a broken lower tibia, which kept him out of action for a long time.
McGregor’s previous attempt to return certainly made fans lose hope in him. One fan wrote, “Yeah, this fight definitely ain’t happening, lol,” reiterating his lack of trust in The Mac.

McGregor’s absence from the UFC had hurt the fans a lot. While he hinted at returning to action, a combat sports enthusiast asserted, “It would be hilarious if you just duck Chandler for the next few years until he retires, haha.. What is 24′?”
Conor McGregor recently shared a video on his Instagram handle that boosted fans’ morale that the Irishman is in good health. Now, with his recent reply to Michael Chandler, he is eying for a return to the UFC octagon. But to make a comeback, the Mac will have to work on his fitness, or else he might lose the opportunity to face the American MMA fighter.
