On September 7, 2024, one of the greatest flyweights in MMA history decided to call it quits. Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson, a name that strikes awe in the hearts of fight fans, recently decided to call time on a glittering career. But what does the big boss of the UFC think about it?
Dana White had some interesting things to say. He was caught off guard when asked about DJ’s retirement and had nothing but praise for the former UFC champ.
“Yeah, I didn’t know that [he retired]. Good for him. Incredible career he had. I never had a problem with Demetrious Johnson. Absolutely [he’s a UFC Hall of Famer],” said White via Grind City Media.
White’s reaction is a reminder of Johnson’s impact on the sport. He had 11 straight title defenses, and that’s a UFC record that still stands tall. Johnson is considered to be at least in the top 3 in every GOAT conversation.
Dana White and Demetrious Johnson didn’t have that good of a relationship. This was basically due to lower sales from the flyweight division. There even were talks of shutting it down completely. This had caused friction between the two. But now, when all is said and done, White appreciates Johnson’s career.
Demetrious Johnson Fires Back At Belal Muhammad
“Mighty Mouse” dominated the UFC flyweight division for years. And he has been stirring the pot lately, but not with his fists. It all started when Johnson critiqued Belal Muhammad’s fighting style. Mighty Mouse, now wearing an analyst hat, didn’t pull any punches in his assessment.

Fresh off his welterweight title win, Muhammad didn’t take kindly to the criticism. He fired back, calling Johnson’s analysis skills into question with a simple “he sucks.” But Demetrious Johnson wasn’t about to let that slide. He recently appeared on the JAXXON podcast to set the record straight.
“I think you’re a reactionary fighter. Two, and I gave him praises…what he did to Leon Edwards, he closed that void, jumped on him, and didn’t stop…it wasn’t clean, but what he did got the job done. But that’s just me as an analyst…he didn’t agree with my analysis, which is fine. He said I sucked, I’m not worried about that, though,” said Johnson.
Johnson’s message to Muhammad was clear. This was his opinion, and he did not force it on anyone. This back-and-forth highlights the evolving nature of MMA. Fighters become analysts, and new champions rise. The game changes, but the banter remains the same.
