Fighting is rightfully considered the toughest and the most brutal sport to ever exist. MMA is the sport where every martial art overlaps and the place where one can witness maximum violence. It takes more than just preparation to step foot in the octagon. There might be no sport in comparison to MMA which provides similar amount of thrill and excitement to the viewers. Former UFC Champion Max Holloway was touching on the same in a recent interview.
Max Holloway explains why MMA fighters are special
When we talk about American sports there are not many who come before basketball superstar LeBron James. LeBron has been the face of American sports for more than a decade now. He’s known for being as athletic a human being can be. But UFC legend Max Holloway was spotted touching upon the topic why MMA is the sport where stakes are the highest and the fighters are the one who have got everything to lose.
Holloway said,
MMA has got short-term memory loss fans, you know. One day someone’s the greatest and then something happens and the next day they forget about what the man did. You know at the end of the day like i said fighting in our sport fighting in mixed martial arts being a fighter is the hardest thing in the whole world. Any other sport baseball, basketball, soccer. Shoot even F1. You know what I mean. You can have a shitty race day, you can have a shitty day. But guess what two days later, four days later you got another match to remind people why you are great. When you fight, you fight one time one night, you can look terrible. You can just have a off night. And you can’t and step back in the octagon for four to six months. Sometimes even longer. You are blessed if you can fight in four months.
Max Holloway made it clear that fighters don’t get second chance that easily. Whereas in majority of the sports people can have a bad day at work but return to their best quite early. He emphasized upon the fact that given the amount of damage the fighters take during the course of their bouts its difficult for them to bounce back within a few weeks or even many months. Many will agree with Max that being a fighter and living the life of an elite mixed martial artist is no easy feat that everyone can do.
Max Holloway takes on Justin Gaethje for the BMF belt. Holloway was the champion at the featherweight division before he lost to Alexander Volkanovski. The 32 year-old will be jumping up a weight class up to lightweight to bring home the BMF gold. It’ll certainly not be an easy bout against Justin who’s known for being the most violent man in the company. Will Holloway come out on top next month? Only time will tell.
