Dana White has long been the storm cloud over boxing’s sunny day, casting shadows on the sport’s struggles. Time and again, he has slammed boxing as a sinking ship. He says the sport is in a financial mess, where paychecks matter more than the fights. So when the UFC CEO promoted the upcoming boxing match between Anthony Joshua and Daniel Dubois, he faced backlash. Popular influencer MMA Guru pointed to Turki Alalshikh as the driving force behind making this matchup happen, turning the seemingly impossible into reality.
The UFC head honcho recently took fans by surprise by promoting the Anthony Joshua vs. Daniel Dubois fight on his Instagram story. As he typically promotes UFC and Power Slap events, this unexpected endorsement of a major boxing match has fans talking on social media. Talking about the same, MMA Guru pointed out that Turki Alalshikh has managed to get White to promote the upcoming IBF heavyweight title fight with the same intensity he would for a UFC title bout.
MMA Influencer noted his surprise at seeing Dana White, who typically focuses on UFC events, promoting a boxing match. He believes White might be feeling pressure from Saudi sponsors, leading him to endorse events outside his usual domain.
In his words, “Never thought I’d see the day. Dana White really now forced to bend over for whatever just to keep those Saudi sponsors, they got him promoting his rivals.”
There’s no doubt that the AJ vs. Dubois fight, organized by Saudi’s Riyadh Season, plays a role here. With White and Turki having a strong relationship, this might explain White’s promotion of the fight. Not to forget, Eddie Hearn, Joshua’s promoter, recently praised a UFC event, possibly indicating that White’s support could be a reciprocal gesture.
