In the world of combat sports, faith has always played a big role in shaping some of the biggest stars. From Jon Jones proudly repping his Christian beliefs to Khabib Nurmagomedov making his Islamic faith a central part of his identity, religion often becomes a part of the fighter’s journey. Notably, many athletes have converted to Islam. British UFC superstar Michael “Venom” Page is the latest to join this list.
The trend of athletes changing their religion began with Muhammad Ali, who left Christianity to embrace Islam—a historic moment that still holds significance today. Over the years, other stars followed, including Mike Tyson, who converted to Islam during his time in prison. More recently, Gervonta Davis joined the list, adopting the name Abdul Wahid. This growing trend continues to shape the stories of many sports icons like Royce Gracie.
Meanwhile, ‘Venom’ Page, who recently joined the UFC, is the latest athlete to embrace Islam. He has been seen praying in mosques, and it’s now officially confirmed on social media that the former Bellator star has converted to Islam. On Instagram, Nashar MMA shared a video of Michael ‘Venom’ Page reciting a prayer, where he openly accepts Islam as his new faith. The video has since gone viral.
What Is Michael ‘Venom’ Page’s Ethnicity?
Talking about the ethnicity, Page has roots in Trinidad through his father and Jamaica through his mother. Although Page’s parents are from Jamaica and Trinidad, he was born in England to Curtis Page Sr. and Pauline Reece. His father worked for British Telecom, and his mother worked as a nurse.
In a UFC Countdown episode, he revealed that he grew up in a martial arts family, with both parents practicing Lau Gar kung fu. However, his interest in MMA was sparked after watching a kung fu movie. Later, he started learning kickboxing at an early age, which played a big role in keeping him out of trouble when his family relocated to a tough neighborhood.
Since converting to Islam, Page has earned respect from Muslim fans worldwide, who are happy that he has embraced the faith. While Page hasn’t publicly shared a specific reason for his decision, athletes who converted before him have mentioned that they did so for the discipline, peace, and sense of purpose that Islam offers, which complements the mental focus and dedication needed in their athletic careers.
