For any athlete, the question of what to do after their sports career ends is a significant concern. Since most athletes retire in their 40s, they often seek ways to stay busy—some start businesses, others take on broadcasting roles, and some choose to coach the next generation. When Michael Chandler was asked whether he would consider commentary after his career, he dismissed the idea and expressed a preference for podcasting instead.
In a recent podcast with Bo Nickal, Michael Chandler acknowledged that, at 38 years old, he doesn’t have many years left in the UFC. He discussed his plans for the future after he hung up his gloves in the near future. Regarding this, Chandler mentioned that since he tried commentary and didn’t enjoy it, he’s unlikely to pursue that path again. Instead, he finds podcasting and engaging with audiences much more interesting.
He stated, “I didn’t enjoy it (commentary) as much as I thought I was going to….It’s not something I love as much as I thought I would. I’d rather be on this kind of microphone speaking to the masses.”
However, it’s not that he wouldn’t consider it if a lucrative deal came his way. Chandler added that if a significant offer presents itself, he would gladly accept it. Otherwise, he sees podcasting as his future destination.
Michael Chandler Reacts To Conor McGregor vs. Dan Hooker Potential Fight
Many UFC fans feel for Chandler since he has been waiting nearly two years for a fight with McGregor. However, that wait may not pay off, as the Irishman is now targeting a matchup with Dan Hooker. During the recent BKFC Spain event, McGregor announced his plan to fight ‘Hangman’ in February next year, prompting fans to eye on Chandler’s response. Finally, ‘Iron’ reacted to this news and dismissed saying McGregor is very unpredictable.
In his words, “Conor [McGregor] is a very flavor of the week kind of guy. He just had a conversation with Dan Hooker… And be like, ‘Hey man, I like you, you like me, we can make some magic. Let’s fight each other.’ So, I looked no further than that, honestly.”

Chandler isn’t reading too much into McGregor’s latest comments, seeing it as just another one of the Irishman’s mood swings. It appears the 38-year-old is still hopeful for a fight with McGregor. For now, though, his focus remains on his upcoming fight, UFC 309 with Charles Oliveira.
