The recent performances of Colby Covington have raised questions about his future in the welterweight division, especially after his losses to Leon Edwards and Joaquin Buckley. Now, ‘Chaos’ is hinting at a move to middleweight, with a specific opponent in mind. However, UFC veteran Michael Bisping isn’t sold on the idea, pointing out that Covington’s build might not be ideal for the division. Bisping’s concern is that Colby could struggle against the bigger fighters in middleweight, given his size and style.
Michael Bisping didn’t hold back when Covington’s middleweight plan became the talk of the town. On his YouTube podcast, the former middleweight champ flat-out dismissed the idea, calling Covington “too small” for the 185-pound division. He made it clear that, in his eyes, Colby’s frame just won’t cut it against the bigger guys at middleweight, leaving fans wondering if Covington’s bold move is really the right play.
Bisping’s verdict? It’s not looking good for ‘Chaos’ in that weight class. He said, “You’ve had three title fights at 170, but you’re not going to walk into a title fight in your debut at 185 pounds.”
Covington’s hopes of facing Sean Strickland may be slipping away. And Bisping also pointed out that if Strickland beats Du Plessis in their upcoming rematch, Covington’s shot at fighting him will be pretty much out the window. So, despite Covington calling out Strickland, it’s looking like that fight isn’t in the cards for now.
Gilbert Burns Calls Out Colby Covington For Miami Fight
Colby Covington may have come up short in his comeback fight, but that hasn’t stopped his fellow fighters from taking shots at him. Recently, former welterweight title contender Gilbert Burns threw some serious shade at ‘Chaos,’ delivering a sarcastic jab. He wrote, “Miami April! Just the contract! I know you not showing up! @ColbyCovMMA.”
It’s clear that while Covington is trying to find his footing, others are more than willing to call him out and add to the heat. Looks like ‘Chaos’ is getting some extra attention, but not in the way he might want.
