UFC fans were in for a rollercoaster ride recently as the highly anticipated bout between Conor McGregor and Michael Chandler hit a snag. These two lightweight stars have been circling each other for months. Their rivalry was set to explode in the octagon, but plans changed, and tempers flared.
It all started when news broke that the McGregor-Chandler fight was off. UFC brass decided to take a different approach, and Chandler got a new opponent: Charles Oliveira at UFC 309. This switch-up lit a fuse under both fighters. McGregor, never one to hold his tongue, lashed out on social media. He accused Chandler of ducking the fight.
“Chandler saw that takedown getting stuffed and mauled and officially dipped. Little fat p****. … Got tested earlier today by DFSI. Give me my f****** date!” wrote McGregor via X.
The Irishman’s colorful language painted Chandler as afraid. He even bragged about his recent training footage. McGregor’s frustration is understandable. He’s been itching to get back in the cage. The former champ-champ hasn’t fought since his leg injury in 2021.
However, the long wait and constant delays have caused Chandler to lose his patience. Plus, the rumors that Conor McGregor may not fight again intensified his already growing worry. And fighting Charles Oliveira is an excellent fight. Maybe he will regain his pride by avenging his previous loss against ‘Do Bronx.’

But Michael Chandler wasn’t about to take this lying down. He fired back with some choice words of his own. The American fighter called McGregor unreliable. He suggested Conor’s lifestyle was to blame for the cancellation.
“I’m not even gonna respond to Conor’s stupid little tweet. Acting like I dipped. The simple fact of the matter is, you are the most unreliable human being that has ever graced mixed martial arts,” said Chandler via X.
The back-and-forth got pretty heated. Chandler challenged Conor McGregor to get his act together. He even threw in a jab about sobriety. Ironically, this war of words might be the most entertainment fans have gotten waiting for their fight. This whole situation is a reminder of how unpredictable the fight game can be. One minute, you’re training for a super fight; the next, you’re Twitter beefing.
