Islam Makahachev is pound-for-pound and the best fighter in the UFC. Many believe his skillset is second to none in the company. Islam Makhachev has only lost once in his UFC career. Since then, he has gone on an absolute rampage, beating anyone and everyone he has faced. In the first round, he last beat Alexander Volkanovski via a spectacular head-kick knockout.
Islam Makahachev is looking for an opponent, and it seems lightweight veteran Dustin Poirier might be the one getting the title shot in the company.

Islam quickly pokes fun at Poirier, pointing out that Dustin has lost two title fights and will lose his third one if he faces against him. Islam Makhachev hails from Dagestan and is known for his immense wrestling pedigree. Dustin Poirier has lost both of his title fights via rear naked chokes.
Dustin must work on his grappling and takedown defense to counter Islam and have some chance of winning the lightweight title. Poirier, a black belt in Jiu Jitsu, is not considered amongst the best grapplers in the company mainly due to his striking, heavy style.
Dustin Poirier last lost to Justin Gaethje when Justin knocked him out in the second round of their BMF bout. Poirier has been sitting at the top of the lightweight rankings for quite some time now. He has fought and beat every contender, barring the champion himself. If this matchup is announced, Dustin will be a heavy underdog. It’ll be interesting to see what happens in the lightweight rankings.
