Back in 2021, Khamzat Chimaev found himself in hot water after making some fiery comments about the retired lightweight champ Khabib Nurmagomedov. The incident sparked during a live stream on Instagram, of all places. Chechen politician Ramzan Kadyrov was criticizing Nurmagomedov, and Chimaev decided to chime in with a threat.
‘Borz’ recently opened up about his past beef with Khabib Nurmagomedov. It’s a tale of youthful impulsivity meets social media drama – a combo that rarely ends well. Khamzat Chimaev now admitted he messed up. In a recent interview, he came clean about the whole debacle.
“So it doesn’t feel good to be compared to anybody else. I just got triggered as someone said that Khabib would smash me, so I responded to that dude. Although I should have not done it. I said, ‘Ok, if Khabib wants to smash me, I am ready to smash him,’ and they [media] just hyped that up,” said Chimaev via Adam Zubayraev on YT.
Chimaev’s admission of his mistake shows growth. It takes guts to admit when you’re wrong, especially in the macho world of MMA. Furthermore, he revealed that he had the utmost respect for Khabib Nurmagomedov and would never fight him, even if he decided to come back.
Nurmagomedov, for his part, handled the situation with grace. He chose not to engage in a public spat, instead taking the high road. This incident serves as a reminder that even MMA fighters aren’t immune to social media missteps. It’s easy to forget that behind those intimidating personas are often young athletes still figuring things out.

‘Bullet’ was asked about what his fight would be like against Khamzat Chimaev and how he would defend against his takedowns. The Russian fighter didn’t mince words and issued a daring statement.
“The main tool I have, even if he takes me down, is not a big deal. My elbows will get the job done as they always did. I’m ready to defend the takedowns, but even if I’m on my back, I will be attacking from there,” said Magomedov.
Magomedov’s bold statement has certainly stirred the pot in the middleweight division. He is not known for his ground game and the ground heavy style of Khamzat Chimaev would be a very difficult matchup for the Pirate. Both of them fight in the middleweight division. It is only a matter of time when these two forces meet each other in the octagon.
