Controversies over celebrity promotions are nothing new. From KSI to many other stars, a number of MMA stars have faced backlash from fans. UFC star Khamzat Chimaev recently joined this list. The Chechen superstar promoted the Smash token cryptocurrency, leading many fans to invest in it just before the token crashed. Subsequently, fans quickly accused ‘Borz’ of scamming them out of a lot of money. Now, Chimaev admits it was a stupid move and addressed these allegations.
Chimaev has broken his silence on the “Smash” token debacle and offered his take on the whole mess. The Russian-born fighter recently appeared on Aslanbek Badaev’s YouTube channel, where he talked about the issue and issued a stern warning to those behind this. He also mentioned that he knew nothing about crypto.
“Well, my manager… you can say acted stupidly and I also made a mistake in this crypto. I don’t understand [crypto] at all, I trust my manager. Like any other athlete probably doesn’t know what crypto is and how it works, I don’t know for sure. I don’t even have time to look at what it is.” Chimaev said.
Chimaev’s manager also apologized for the issue, but the damage had already been done. Many fans lost their money, and he did not discuss plans to compensate them. Despite the apology, fans were left without any solutions to the situation. As Chimaev addressed the crypto scam allegations, he is also preparing for his return to the octagon.
