Apart from his electrifying UFC walk, whenever one hears the name Khamzat Chimaev, the first thing that comes to mind is dominance. The Chechen fighter is UFC’s new predator, stalking his prey with relentless ferocity, leaving no survivors. Everyone he has fought so far has ended with one outcome: him winning. However, despite this kind of dominance, Khamzat has yet to earn a title shot. While fighters like Alex Pereira became two-division champions, even after coming behind him. This has certainly caused him some sort of frustration. Recently, he shared that he is hoping for Donald Trump to win the election to resolve his US visa issues, which are hindering his chances for a title shot.
In a recent vlog on Adam Zubayraev’s YouTube channel, he discussed his upcoming fight against Robert Whittaker at UFC 308. He expressed his confidence that he would secure a title shot afterward. The Chechen fighter stated that Dana White and Co. had already broken several promises of getting him a title shot, but after the fight, it never materialized.
Furthermore, he added that visa issues are preventing him from getting a title fight. Khamzat hopes that if Trump becomes President again, his friendship with the UFC head honcho and passion for the UFC will help resolve his situation.
In his words, “They promise me a title eliminator every time… When I fought Gilbert Burns it was the No.1 contender fight. After the Kamaru Usman fight I didn’t get the title shot either. Now it’s the third time… Let’s see, hopefully. As long as Donald Trump is not the president we can’t come back to the U.S. Maybe that’s the reason. Let’s not cover the truth.”
In the past, Chimaev has mentioned having trouble with his US visa, and it seems those issues remain unresolved. It will be interesting to see if Trump regains power and whether he will actually help sort this out. Until then, Chimaev will have to continue fighting outside the USA.
Khamzat Chimaev Says He Proudly Represents Russia
Recently, Chimaev talked about his current living arrangements in the UAE. Talking to Adam Zubayraev, he explained that he has not sought citizenship in the UAE but holds a residence permit that is valid for ten years and can be renewed for an additional ten years. Chimaev expressed his intention to maintain his Russian citizenship, noting that while he could have applied for Swedish citizenship—like his family has chosen to do—he prefers to uphold his Russian heritage.

He said, “I love the Caucasus. And I’ve always said that I am going to live in the Caucasus after I quit the sport. I am the son of the Caucasus and it’s my home.”
Amidst the ongoing discussions about visas and citizenship, Chimaev is looking forward to his upcoming match against Whittaker. A victory in this fight would undoubtedly position him as a strong contender for a title shot, especially as the UFC plans to host the event outside the United States.
