Khalil Rountree has put his doubters to rest with a powerful performance at UFC 307, where many thought Alex Pereira would stroll to victory. Instead, Rountree brought the storm, showcasing his heart and nearly capturing the title. Now, having gone from being doubted to a fan favorite, fans are waiting for his next fight. Meanwhile, he recently shared that he’ll be stepping back into the Octagon in the first quarter of 2025 to clash with Jamahal Hill.
Recently, after losing to Pereira, Rountree had a chat with veteran journalist Kevin Iole, where he opened up about various topics, from undergoing painful surgery to other matters. With fans eagerly awaiting his next fight, Iole asked about his plans following UFC 307. Rountree revealed that he is eyeing a comeback fight, which he expects will happen in the first quarter of next year.
He stated, “I’m very excited to come back and fight again, but it will probably be Q1 next year.” Not only that, but he also states that his fight against Pereira shows he is ready to compete at a high level. However, it also makes him realize that there’s still plenty to learn and room for growth.
Furthermore, when asked if Jamahal Hill is the next fighter on his radar, he confidently states that there’s no doubt about it. He believes this match will definitely happen. In his words, “I think it’s almost inevitable, right? I think he’s ranked No. 3. I think anyone up there in the top five is kind of inevitable, so let’s see what happens.”
Why is Khalil Rountree vs. Jamahal Hill inevitable?
For those who don’t know, Rountree was all set to step into the octagon against Hill at UFC 303, but life threw him a curveball. He accidentally ingested a forbidden substance and, like a true sportsman, owned up to it by reaching out to UFC’s health chief, Jeff Novitzky. Just when he was gearing up to fight, another blow hit him—an injury forced him to pull out. Since then, this has been the fight that fans have been waiting for a long time.
After Khalil’s impressive performance against Pereira, which earned him considerable praise, he has every right to request this matchup from the UFC. If Hill is still without an opponent, Khalil asserts he will definitely push to make this fight happen next year.
