One of the biggest clashes is set to take place in the octagon shortly, with Lightweight champion Islam Makhachev taking on Dustin Poirier for his third title defense in the main event of UFC 302. Makhachev is on a killer thirteen-fight win streak and will want to carry his winning momentum. This is the first time Islam is defending the Lightweight title against someone other than Alexander Volkanovski.
The Dagestani enters the fight as a heavy favorite, and the former two-division champion Henry Cejudo is convinced that Islam will justify the odds come UFC 302.
Henry Cejudo reveals why Islam Makhachev is gonna win
Henry Cejudo became the Bantamweight and Featherweight champion of the world a few years back. The man knows what it takes to win at the highest level of MMA. On his podcast, he revealed why he thinks Islam is locked in for a victory at the main event of UFC 302. Cejudo said,
His (confidence) is already there. Khabib’s his controller. Whatever Khabib says this dude’s doing. He’s gonna follow the blueprint of his brother.
Cejudo is convinced that Poirier does not stand a chance against Islam Makhachev in the cage. He believes that Islam might finish Dustin before the championship rounds begin. Henry revealed that he would follow the blueprint for beating Dustin given to him by Khabib. The former Lightweight champion finished Poirier in the third round of their fight.
Poirier is the heavy underdog in the bout against Makhachev in UFC 302. The Louisiana native has struggled against opponents who are natural grapplers. Dustin has previously been in title fights twice, losing both times via rear naked choke, a trademark Jiu-Jitsu technique. The former title challenger will love to defy the odds and complete his career objective of winning the UFC gold. Dusitn beat Benoit St-Denis in the second round by knockout in the second round of the fight.
