After defeating Justin Gaethje at UFC 254, Khabib Nurmagomedov formally announced his retirement from mixed martial arts in October 2020, having never experienced loss.
The Russian never once experienced a scratch, much less a loss, throughout his 29 professional fights; nevertheless, his amateur record was not as flawless.
In a Russian Combat Sambo final, Khabib, who was 17 at the time, was defeated by Magomed Ibragimov. Having wrestled since he was a small child, Khabib started practising judo at the age of 15, and he was able to learn the Sambo techniques with the assistance of his late father, Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov.
In the Russian Sambo Championship Final, the 17-year-old Khabib Nurmagomedov faced 20-year-old Magomed Ibragimov as his opponent. Magomed Ibragimov fought on behalf of the Republic of Chechnya, while Khabib Nurmagomedov represented the Republic of Dagestan.

Khabib Nurmagomedov’s Reaction To His Only Loss In UFC
Khabib Nurmagomedov showed amazing grappling and wrestling abilities even at such a young age. But in the end, Ibragimov’s opponent won because the competition’s judges gave him a higher score.
Khabib Nurmagomedov dropped to the mat, presumably crying, and put his hands to his face after losing. Given that his father, Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov, was the Dagestani team’s coach, he might have been under pressure to perform.

Ibragimov showed excellent sportsmanship by going forward before the referee could reach up to comfort Nurmagomedov and help him to his feet. The crowd applauded as the two competitors stepped off the mat together.
The 20-year-old Ibragimov emerged victorious in a difficult bout to become the UFC’s lightweight champion going forward. After the fight, a victorious Ibragimov showed outstanding sportsmanship by consoling and assisting his distraught opponent in getting back up on his feet.
Ibragimov helped the boy to his feet and consoled him with elegance and grace. He went on to win bronze medals at the 2016 Olympics and the 2018 Asian Games.
