Umar Nurmagomedov secured the biggest win of his career by defeating #2 ranked Cory Sandhagen in Abu Dhabi. The judges declared Umar the winner by unanimous decision after the fight went to the scorecards. Both fighters considered this match critical, as the winner was expected to receive a title shot. In the post-fight Octagon interview, Nurmagomedov expressed his desire for a title opportunity. Additionally, Khabib Nurmagomedov claimed that Umar is title-ready after his victory at UFC Abu Dhabi.
The former UFC lightweight champion, Khabib Nurmagomedov, supported his cousin Umar in this bout. He attended the training camp and stood in Umar’s corner. In a post-fight interview, Khabib expressed his belief that Umar is ready for a title shot. However, he acknowledged that anyone from Sean O’Malley and Merab Dvalishvili could be very tough opponents. Khabib said:
“I think he’s ready. Like title fight you never know what’s gonna happen you know this is very big fight very big competition you know. On his division Sean O’Malley is the champion, he is very good opponent. If UFC decides i think Umar gonna win”
With Khabib Nurmagomedov, considered the greatest of all time, in the training camp, the chances of loss are reduced. Moreover, Khabib strongly believes that Umar has the strength to defeat the champion. But only time will tell whether Umar will face O’Malley or Dvalishvili next.
