The welterweight landscape has seen quite a shakeup lately. Belal Muhammad dethroned Leon Edwards at UFC 304 in a surprising upset, capturing the title that once belonged to Kamaru Usman. But it seems “The Nigerian Nightmare” isn’t too impressed with Muhammad’s post-victory attitude.
Usman isn’t holding back his thoughts on the division’s new king. In his recent Pound 4 Pound podcast episode, he took aim at Muhammad’s newfound confidence, suggesting the belt has gone to his head.
“Everything [Muhammad] does, I do better… Becoming the new champion, that goes to your head. It’s like having your first beer, all of a sudden now you’re talking reckless to everybody like you’re this dude… If that is my next fight, then I’m gonna have to go in there and do what I do,” said Usman.
Usman, known for his dominance during his reign, ruled the 170-pound division from 2019 to 2022. He defended his title five times before losing to Leon Edwards in a shocking knockout at UFC 278. Now, watching from the sidelines, Usman can’t help but chuckle at Muhammad’s behavior.
The tension between the two fighters isn’t new. After Muhammad’s title win, Usman took to social media to remind everyone of his own accomplishments. This prompted a dismissive response from Muhammad, further fueling the fire. But Usman isn’t just throwing shade. He’s also hinting at a potential comeback.
Kamaru Usman Has A Message For ‘Not-So-Good’ Belal Muhammad
The welterweight division has always been a hotbed of trash talk and rivalries. From the days of Georges St-Pierre to the Covington-Masvidal saga, there’s never a dull moment at 170 pounds. As such, the war of words between Kamaru Usman and Muhammad continues to heat up.

On his “Pound 4 Pound” podcast with Henry Cejudo, Usman didn’t mince words about the new champ. He critiqued the new welterweight champion and compared Muhammad to his own self when he was a champion.
“My man, you’re kind of a not-so-good version of myself…everything he does, I do better. He’s like, ‘Oh, I did what you couldn’t do, I beat Leon Edwards.’ I have a win over Leon Edwards,” said Usman.
Muhammad, never one to back down from a verbal sparring session, fired back on his own podcast. He pointed out that while Usman may have beaten Edwards in 2015, times have changed. The back-and-forth between these welterweight titans has fans salivating at the prospect of a potential showdown. Maybe these two titans will enter the Octagon to prove their worth once again.
