After he faces Max Holloway in the UFC 300, Justin Gaethje says he would rather fight in June than travel to Abu Dhabi again. By winning this fight, Gaethje hopes to bypass the 17-hour trip to Abu Dhabi and advance to a lightweight title bout at Madison Square Garden in November. He highlights how uneasy he felt about his prior encounters in Abu Dhabi because of strange surroundings and disturbed habits.
Makhachev has fought three times in the last five fights, all in Abu Dhabi, the site of the UFC’s annual major event in October. Gaethje hopes to get his title opportunity at that very moment. Islam will likely return to Abu Dhabi after winning a bout at UFC 302 on June 1.
“F—, I think I would rather fight in June than fight in Abu Dhabi,” Gaethje said. “I think ideally we fight in Madison Square Garden [in November]. Who knows, I’m sure the UFC might try to put him in Abu Dhabi, and if that’s where the road takes me, that’s where I go.”
