Jon Jones is set to make his highly anticipated return at UFC 309 against Stipe Miocic. However, this fight could mark the end of the road for the heavyweight champion. Now 37 years old, Jones is likely contemplating retirement after facing Miocic. His performance in this fight will play a key role in determining his future plans.
Jones appears fully ready for his long-awaited return. Staying active on social media, “Bones” has shared training videos and photos, showing himself in top form. Despite his intense preparation, this could be the last time fans see him in the octagon. During a promotional session with KetoneIQ, Jones mentioned while doing cardio that his decision to retire at UFC 309 hinges on his performance.
“One of my main goals is to make it look really easy. If I can accomplish that, I think curiosity will keep me in the game,” Jones stated.
A strong performance could encourage the heavyweight champion to stay in the game a bit longer. However, competition in the heavyweight division has intensified during Jones’ absence. One of the top contenders who has risen to prominence is Tom Aspinall. Aspinall is eager for a fight with Jones, as the interim titleholder aims for the heavyweight championship.
Jon Jones Hints At Future Fight With Alex Pereira Over Tom Aspinall
With UFC fans eagerly awaiting Jones vs. Stipe Miocic, one of the biggest heavyweight matchups in UFC history, both fighters may be stepping into the Octagon for the last time. Recently, Jones hinted that if he fights again, it won’t be against Tom Aspinall, whom he feels hasn’t proven himself enough. Instead, Jones suggested that a bout with Alex Pereira could be more appealing for both legacy and financial reasons.
“I feel like Tom Aspinall is, I don’t want to say nobody, but he just hasn’t proven anything. He hasn’t done anything. I’m not here to gamble someone else making a name off of me. If there were to be a fight of a guy that’s still on our UFC roster that would be not only financially worth it but legacy worth it, it would be Alex Pereira,” he said.

Despite Aspinall repeatedly calling out Jon Jones to defend his title, it seems unlikely the heavyweight champion will grant him a fight. Instead, Jones has expressed more interest in facing Alex Pereira. Both potential matchups would be monumental in UFC history, and fans are eagerly waiting to see Jones’ next move—whether he retires or decides to continue fighting remains unpredictable.
