The Heavyweight division of the UFC is in an exciting spot. Jon Jones became the undisputed champion after submitting Cyril Gane in the first round of their fight. Meanwhile, Tom Aspinall is the interim Heavyweight champion in the UFC, a title he acquired when he knocked out Sergei Palovich in the first round.
In a recent interview, Aspinall gave his two cents on where he is right now in his UFC career and explained why he thinks Jones is irrelevant when it comes to his own career.
Tom Aspinall is only the second English champion in the UFC. It was recently announced that the man is going to take on Curtis Blaydes for the second time in his career.
Tom Aspinall calls Jon Jones irrelevant
Tom Aspinall made his mind known when he claimed that he wanted to take on the alleged GOAT of MMA in Jon Jones. Jones has confirmed that he only wants to take on Stipe Miocic, as Miocic is a much bigger name in the company. In an interview given to the Mac Life, Aspinall said,
I honestly think Jon Jones is a legend. I respect what he’s done in the octagon but right now he’s quite irrelevant to what I’m doing. I’m fighting Curtis Blaydes. If I can’t get up for this one, coming off a loss against him and trying to redeem myself then what can I get up for?
Aspinall made it clear that he needs to level the score with Curtis Blaydes, as he lost to the man a few years back in his career. He revealed that he is not focusing on Jon Jones as he must first take care of business against Curtis in UFC 304. The Englishman is set to fight the American wrestler in Manchester in the co-main event. If Tom wins his fight in the cage, he will become a contender for the undisputed belt in the octagon.

Jon Jones picks Curtis Blaydes to beat Aspinall
Jon Jones, on his social media handle, revealed who he thinks will emerge victorious in the cage after a five-round war. Jones said,
I wouldn’t be surprised if Curtis won, i’ve seen scenarios like this time and time again. Dude prematurely drinking his own Kool-Aid ends up with a huge piece of humble pie. I mean If Sergei can touch Tom that easy, I’m sure Curtis can too. When Curtis decides to go, he’s a lot faster than people realize, and he hits hard. A few well timed shots and that strong top game, it could be a long night for old Tommy boy. Either way, I’ll be watching, excited to have some additional footage
The Heavyweight champ is sure that Curtis can inflict heavy damage on Tom Aspinall in the co-main event of UFC 304. According to Jones, if Blaydes hits the English great with some well-timed shots, it might be a long night for the interim champion. It’ll be interesting to see what happens in the Heavyweight division.
