Jon Jones has always been known for his fierce drive, relentless work ethic, and unmatched talent in the UFC. When he made his return to the Octagon after a three-year hiatus, the anticipation was sky-high. At UFC 285, Jon Jones faced Ciryl Gane for the vacant UFC Heavyweight Title. ‘Bones’ had been training intensely for this moment, and fans expected a hard-fought battle.
But instead, what unfolded was a dominant performance from Jones that ended with him submitting Gane in just over two minutes. It was a flawless win, but surprisingly, Jones felt a little disappointed. In a recent interview with ESPN MMA, he revealed the reason for this.
“Beating Ciryl Gane was an amazing memory and experience…I remember one of the first major feelings I had was a little bit of disappointment. I remember sitting on top of the cage and celebrating my victory, taking a deep breath and thinking, ‘Man, that was fast. That was fast.’ …three years leading up to that, a lot of prayer, a lot of meditation, a lot of teamwork.”
Jon Jones wasn’t disappointed in his victory itself but rather in how quickly the fight ended. After all, he had spent three years in training and rehab, preparing for what he thought would be an epic return.
Now, with UFC 309 on the horizon, Jon Jones is gearing up for what could be a much tougher challenge in Stipe Miocic. His disappointment from UFC 285 seems to have fueled his hunger for a more meaningful battle.

The biggest factor in Jon Jones’ decision would be his performance in the octagon. During a recent interview while doing some cardio, Jones revealed that if he can make his fight look easy, it will keep him hungry and motivated to continue.
“One of my main goals is to make it look really easy. If I can accomplish that, I think curiosity will keep me in the game,” Jones stated via Ketone IQ.
This mentality isn’t entirely surprising. ‘Bones‘ has always been known for his supreme confidence and desire to prove himself against the best. Jon Jones’ perspective makes sense.
