From fighters making unfiltered remarks to facing serious legal issues, combat sports have seen plenty of controversy. Cain Velasquez, Conor McGregor, and Jon Jones have all been involved in significant legal troubles. And once again, the UFC HW champ, Jones, got in trouble with two misdemeanor charges. Indeed, this might turn into disappointment for the fans waiting to see him back in action.
Before his UFC comeback, heavyweight champion Jon Jones faced two misdemeanor charges from authorities in New Mexico. These charges stem from an incident in which a drug-testing agent reported Jones’ behavior after visiting his Albuquerque home on March 30 to collect a sample.
If convicted on both counts, Jones could receive a jail sentence of less than a year and fines—up to $500 for the petty misdemeanor and up to $1,000 for the other misdemeanor.
The incident involves UFC drug-testing agents from Drug-Free Sport who visited Jon Jones’ home on March 30 for a random sample. Agent Crystal Martinez reported that Jones appeared agitated when he couldn’t provide a urine sample and was instead offered a blood test.
Martinez claimed Jones asked if they had money because he planned to sue them, then allegedly grabbed her phone and began recording. Martinez, feeling terrified with Jones standing less than a foot away, feared he might hit her and considered ending the test and leaving. Jones later issued a statement on X denying these allegations.
