Mention Joe Rogan, and it’s like opening Pandora’s box—comedy, podcasts, and an endless stream of ideas pour out, controversy, and everything in between. However, out of everything Rogan is passionate about, combat sports undeniably top the list. As a UFC commentator, he practically eats, sleeps, and breathes fighting. But is there a sport that excites Rogan even more than combat sports? Well, in the latest episode of the JRE podcast, he finally revealed the answer—and it’s something most people would never see coming.
In the recent JRE episode featuring Tom Segura, Joe Rogan admitted he knew nothing about basketball and didn’t watch any sports other than fighting. Segura then asked what grabbed Joe’s attention besides his first love, MMA. Rogan revealed his growing fascination with soccer and, even more unexpectedly, mentioned cricket as a sport he would like to explore further.
In his words, “I’ll maybe would be like what’s going on with Cricket. What are you guys doing? Like what is that? What the hell is happening? And what I really like watching is soccer. We went to an Austin professional soccer game. It is legit.”
Well, it’s pretty understandable why he got hooked on soccer. Especially after Lionel Messi joined Inter Miami, the hype around soccer shot up. Plus, streamers like IShowSpeed have definitely boosted its popularity. However, while hugely popular in India, England, and Australia, cricket is still making its way into the US market.
Consequently, hearing cricket out of all the sports Rogan loves to explore is really interesting. It could be the recent World Cup in the US that has piqued his curiosity about the sport. Only he knows the reason behind that, which he didn’t share. Meanwhile, the UFC commentator shared the reason why he believes soccer won’t make big in the American market.
Joe Rogan Doesn’t Think Soccer Will Be Big in America
Undoubtedly, with every JRE episode, UFC commentators spark extensive discussions about numerous topics. Additionally, when talking about soccer, he mentioned that he believes it will never work in the US due to the fact that it’s a long game without any breaks.

He suggested that there is very little room for advertisers to promote, making it tough for soccer to succeed in the US market, unlike other sports like the UFC, where there’s a break for advertisements after every round.
Meanwhile, from a game perspective, there’s no doubt that Rogan loves soccer and its super-fit players. In defense of soccer, the sport is growing more popular each day, thanks to EA’s FIFA game, streamers like IShowSpeed, and big names like Messi and Ronaldo. Only time will tell if it can truly break through on a massive scale.
