When fans think of Joe Rogan, a lot of things might come to mind. He is the guy who went from making people eat bugs on Fear Factor to becoming the world’s biggest podcaster. He’s the voice that gets fans hyped during UFC fights, and he’s even pretty good at making people laugh on stage. But when Josh Brolin recently asked him about his most exciting pursuit, Rogan’s answer had nothing to do with any of these careers.
During his chat with Josh Brolin on the Joe Rogan Experience, he broke down why bow-hunting Elk gets his heart racing more than anything else. It’s not about the danger. Instead, it’s the pure challenge of it all. Bow hunting means getting close enough to your target to make the shot, which is about as easy as trying to sneak up on your cat while wearing tap shoes.
“Elk hunting is probably the most exciting… You’re bow hunting in the mountains. It’s you and the mountains and f*****g mountains lions and bears and s**t. Oh yeah, and then we pack [the kill] out.”
This isn’t a typical weekend hobby. He has to track massive animals through rough terrain while sharing space with mountain lions and bears. Joe Rogan has even skipped out on UFC commentary gigs just to chase elk through the wilderness.
The whole conversation showed a different side of Rogan than what most people see. Sure, he’s famous for talking about DMT, bears, and interviewing everyone from Elon Musk to Bernie Sanders, but at his core, he’s just a guy who finds his zen in one of the most primal human activities.
Joe Rogan Reveals The Service UFC Did For The World Of Martial Arts
Back in the day, every martial arts gym had that one instructor who swore their style was unbeatable. Rogan was no stranger to this mindset, having started his martial arts journey in Taekwondo, where he heard similar claims. But then something fascinating happened – the UFC came along and turned the martial arts world upside down.

During a recent chat on his podcast with Jimmy Corsetti and Dan Richards, Joe Rogan broke down how the promotion accidentally became the world’s biggest martial arts myth-buster. It was like a real-life science experiment, putting different fighting styles against each other in an octagon.
“Every discipline believed they had the very best discipline…..And it took the UFC to slam everything together and go, ‘oh Jesus half of the stuff is f*cking useless,” Rogan said in the recent episode of the JRE.
But Joe Rogan wasn’t saying traditional martial arts are worthless. The key lesson from the UFC’s grand experiment wasn’t that some martial arts are bad and others are good. Instead, it showed that success in fighting comes from being able to blend different techniques and use them at the right moment.
