Every sport has its own physical demands—height is an advantage in basketball, while shorter stature benefits gymnasts for agility. MMA, being one of the toughest sports, has its own set of requirements. Recently, Joe Rogan highlighted that Jon Jones possesses the perfect build for MMA. His height, reach, and athleticism give him a natural advantage in the cage, making him an exceptional fighter.
In a recent conversation with Theo Von on JRE, Joe Rogan discussed the potential downsides of being taller in MMA. However, Rogan emphasized that Jon Jones’ physique plays a major role in his dominance. Standing at 1.93 meters, the current UFC Heavyweight Champion’s height, combined with his exceptional skills, gives him the perfect build for success in the sport.
“A guy built like Jon Jones has the perfect fighter frame, ‘cuz he’s still very strong, he has a lot of muscle, but he’s also long and lean. So he’s not relatively bulky compared to his weight ‘cuz he’s long and stretched out yeah so he can hit you from here and you can only hit him from here. This amount of distance is so huge… you have to cross that and you’re so vulnerable while crossing that,” Rogan stated.
Additionally, Rogan explains that fighters with strong counter-striking skills, high activity, and long reach make it tough for opponents to close in. For ‘Bones,’ this combination is a huge advantage. Even if someone manages to get close, the battle isn’t easier—Jones brings elite grappling skills to the mix, making him a threat at any range.
Jon Jones Training Hard To Use 12-6 Elbow At Stipe Miocic Fight
Currently, Jones is gearing up for his first heavyweight title defense against Miocic, and all eyes are on the champion. In a recent chat with Kevin Iole, ‘Bones’ revealed he’s been working on his 12-6 elbow strikes, a move that was handed him his only loss via disqualification and was banned until November. With the UFC’s new rules allowing the 12-6 elbow as a legal strike, both standing and on the ground, fans might soon witness Jones unleash this dangerous technique in his upcoming fight.
“I’ve been training extensively on different 12-6 elbow attacks. It’s funny because it’s been such a big no-no move, so you train yourself not to go there, and now to be able to use that strike, I mean, it’s a very damaging strike,” he stated.
