In the early days of his martial arts journey, Joe Rogan gravitated toward Taekwondo, drawn in by claims from his coaches that it was the pinnacle of fighting styles. At the time, the martial arts community often claimed that each discipline was the ultimate fighting style. However, Rogan later came to view this perspective as limited, thanks to the lessons learned from the UFC.
On a recent episode of The Joe Rogan Experience with guests Jimmy Corsetti and Dan Richards, Rogan reflected on how the UFC exposed the flaws in the idea of any one martial art reigning supreme. He explained that unpredictable elements in actual combat highlight the importance of blending techniques from multiple styles to achieve success.
“Every discipline believed they had the very best discipline…..And it took the UFC to slam everything together and go, ‘oh Jesus half of the stuff is f*cking useless,” Rogan said in the recent episode
Rogan also emphasized that traditional martial arts aren’t entirely ‘useless.’ The key, he explained, lies in applying techniques correctly and at the right moment. He further highlighted Jon Jones’ recent victory over Stipe Miocic, praising the use of a Taekwondo kick in the fight as remarkable.
