I’m not sure exactly how Dana White will feel about this, but I’m also not so sure Joe Rogan will care.
During a recent edition of his podcast, while speaking with Bert Kreischer, Rogan admitted that he used to bet on UFC fights during his early days of commentating for the company. According to Rogan, he would see some little known fighters coming in from other countries whom he knew were being undervalued, and would successfully bet on them to win.
Via Mediaite:
“I used to gamble on fights when I was calling them in the early days of the UFC,” Rogan said on his podcast. “Cause there was guys that would come in from overseas…and I knew who they were and I would gamble on them.”
“I was like, ‘is this bad?’ Like I’m commentating and I’m also gambling,” Rogan admitted in a moment of morality. “I don’t know if that’s smart because I don’t wanna be biased.”
Rogan says that it came to a point where he was sharing the picks with friend and Onnit partner Aubrey Marcus, and he would be correctly picking the fights on a 80 percent clip:
After questioning if his gambling habits were “bad,” Rogan said he eventually started giving his friend and Onnit partner Aubrey Marcus the inside tips for MMA wagers.
“Guys would come in and I would say ‘oh my god that line is totally wrong, this guy’s a killer.’ And we were at one point at 84 percent,” Rogan told his guest Bert Kreischer. “Where I was just giving him the tips and he was gambling, eight out of ten I would call them right.”
While gambling on a sports league that’s employing you is often frowned upon, don’t expect much to come out of this from Dana White. Unless this was somehow having a negative impact on the organization or the fights and their commentary, it seems like a rather harmless act from Rogan. But it’s still an interesting story, nonetheless.
