When you think of a rising superstar in combat sports, the name of Alex Pereira immediately comes to mind. Last year, he became the PPV savior, not only capturing the championship but also becoming the toughest challenge in the company. Pereira shocked many, taking down top fighters like Jiri Prochazka and solidifying his reputation as a true powerhouse. After two losses to the Brazilian powerhouse, Jiri Prochazka vows to prove his mastery and focuses on defeating Alex Pereira.
Alex Pereira and Jiri Prochazka have fought twice. The first was on November 11, 2023, at UFC 295, where Pereira won the vacant Light Heavyweight Championship by TKO’ing Prochazka in the second round. Their rematch on June 29, 2024, at UFC 303 saw Pereira drop Prochazka with a left hook in round one, then finish him in round two with a head kick and punches, claiming another TKO victory.
After two losses, a fighter like Jiri Prochazka, known for his ferocious power and victories over fighters like Jamahal Hill and Glover Teixeira is determined to prove himself. Despite his struggles against Pereira, Prochazka views this as his only path to showcase his true mastery and skill in the octagon, aiming to finally overcome the Brazilian powerhouse and redeem himself.
Talking to Mike Perry, he stated, “To overcome and win against my next opponent. With Alex there are a few keys. Right now, this is my only thing that I want in this fighting career. To prove that mastery, to win in this fight because that is something what was for me a big learning. If you lost twice with someone, that is a big thing for me.”
Alex Pereira Fires Back at Jiri Prochazka’s ‘Black Magic’ Claims
On The Ariel Helwani Show, the UFC LHW Champ responded to Prochazka’s claims that he used black magic to boost his UFC career. Pereira emphasized that he’s a god-fearing man, saying he’s never been involved in such practices and is just a regular person. He suggested that if Prochazka truly believed in these claims, he should try to fight him with those beliefs in mind. Adding to that, Pereira expressed his desire to face opponents at their best, without any distractions, for a fair and exciting fight.
Indeed, If ‘Poatan’ beats Magomed Ankalaev at UFC 313, a trilogy fight with Jiri Prochazka could be on the way. If not that, Pereira has also hinted at moving up to heavyweight, possibly fighting Jon Jones or Tom Aspinall for the heavyweight title. Undoubtedly, to follow his career’s trajectory will be really interesting.
