The UFC 303 was full of drama and controversy! Although Ian Machado Garry won his bout against Michael Page unanimously, Dana White felt it should have been a draw. A few days later, after winning the T-Mobile Arena at the Las Vegas event’s opener, Garry strongly responded to the UFC President’s opinion.
Speaking on The MMA Hour, Garry disagreed with anyone who felt that his fight with Page should have ended up in a draw. The 26-year-old Irish fighter said,
You’re full of sh*t. You need to go back and watch the fight. First round was mine. Here’s the thing: There is more of a case to say that I won all three rounds than… than there is to say it was a draw. That’s the way I look at it. First round, dominated. No one in the world is arguing that. Third round, it’s pretty obvious I won.
Dana White Wasn’t Surprised With UFC 303 Ian Machado Garry vs. Michael Page Reception
The UFC 303 was too dramatic for the MMA promotion. It started with Garry facing Page in the opening match. While the Irishman won the bout, the fans were not pleased with the results and so was the UFC President. He felt that Page had let go of his top position in the third round.
Despite Garry bouncing back well in the third round, White believed that the fight should have been a draw! While speaking in the post-fight press conference, he said,
We talked about it leading up to this fight. I had that fight a draw. If they came out and said that fight was a draw, that was exactly what I thought that fight was, too.
Ian Machado Garry secured a rear-naked choke in the first round against Michael Page. However, he suffered a huge setback against Page in the second round. Eventually, all three judges declared that the Irish MMA fighter won the first and third rounds against his counterpart.
