Late Saturday night, UFC president Dana White announced that McGregor and Michael Chandler had agreed to square off in Las Vegas on June 29. That is when the UFC usually tries to put together one of its best events of the year during International Fight Week in Las Vegas.
In the five-round main event of UFC 303, the Irish sensation and former two-division champion finally steps back into the 170-pound division to take on Michael Chandler.
For McGregor, it has been a long time coming. His injuries during his most recent fight, UFC 264 against Dustin Poirier, left him with a broken leg and put him on the shelf. McGregor’s injuries kept him out of action, but when he agreed to coach The Ultimate Fighter 31 alongside Chandler this past year, he began planning his comeback.
Israel Adesanya Comments On Michael Chandler’s Future For UFC 303
Chandler and “Izzy” met inside the T-Mobile Arena at the UFC 300. Although the pair arrived early, not all the seats were occupied. Adesanya posted a video of him sitting in the first row with nobody else, so we know this. He saw Chandler before heading to his seat, and the two took a picture.
Because both of Chandler’s adoptive children are African-American, several fans were offended. Following UFC 300, Israel Adesanya and Chandler reconnected.
Israel Adesanya and Michael Chandler appear to be close friends; based on a recent Instagram story, Adesanya tags Chandler and writes, “Future looks bright” and “See you at the top.”

While he waits for the McGregor match, Chandler, the former lightweight champion of Bellator, has been sidelined for more than a year. His most recent appearance was in November 2022, when he lost to Dustin Poirier via submission, bringing his UFC record to 2-3 overall.
When Chandler takes on McGregor in June, he intends to get back on track and defeat the biggest draw in UFC history. More bouts for the June pay-per-view are anticipated to be revealed in the upcoming weeks.
