The Lightweight division of the UFC is set to witness one of the most scintillating clashes in the octagon. Islam Makhachev will defend his title against veteran Dustin Poirier. The Dagestani has been in camp for months to prepare for the Louisiana native. The lightweight king is currently the number one fighter on the pound-for-pound list in the UFC.
In a recently uploaded clip, Islam revealed how Khabib Nurmagomedov is helping him level up in the MMA world and gave some major insights into how Nurmagomedov is helping him in the cage.
Islam Makhachev on training sessions under Khabib Nurmagomedov
The Lightweight champion, Islam Makhachev, was training under the guidance of the former pound-for-pound king and Hall of Famer Khabib Nurmagomedov. In a recently uploaded video on Khabib’s YouTube channel, Makhachev was spotted giving out the details of his training camp. Islam said,
It’s already wrestling week, and there’s nothing too difficult in training sessions anymore. We do a lot of drills, positional wrestling, and simulate the fight.
Islam Makhachev made it clear that he’s been training hard in the previous months and doesn’t find anything difficult to do anymore in camp. Makhachev is one of the most versatile fighters in the cage and weighed in on areas of combat sports that they are touching on in the cage. The Lightweight king is the heavy favorite coming in the fight mainly due to his grappling heavy style in the cage.
Dustin Poirier will need to deal with the Dagestani beast’s takedown attempts, as he is known for his precise takedowns in the cage. Makhachev will look to satisfy the odds coming into the fight against Poirier. He has previously claimed he wants to be an active champion in the company. Given his elite striking skills in the cage, Poirier will be a tricky challenge for the Lightweight king.
