Dustin Poirier has clarified that his next fight will most likely Islam Makhachev.
Makhachev has been out of action since October last year when he faced Alexander Volkanovski in a rematch. While there rumours of him potentially moving up and fighting Leon Edwards or defending his title against Justin Gaethje, all of those seem to have been fallen through.
Interestingly, it now looks like Dustin Poirier might be next in line for a title shot. Poirier was most recently seen in action against Benoit-Saint Denis. After previously suffering a KO loss at the hands of Justin Gaethje, ‘The Diamond’ walked into the fight as an underdog. However, he secured an emphatic KO victory.
Following that, Poirier has been rumoured to potentially take on Islam Makhachev for the title. Moreover, he seems to have confirmed the rumours with his latest Instagram post which he captioned by saying: “Islam Makhachev is next. It’s time to reach the pinnacle”
