Islam Makhachev is set to take on Dustin Poirier in the main event of the UFC 302. Makhachev is set to defend his title for the third time in the octagon against the UFC veteran. If Islam wins against Poirier, he will beat almost every prominent fighter in the company’s lightweight division. In a recent interview, he revealed that he would be open to exploring the Welterweight division. Still, if Belal Muhammad wins the Welterweight, things will get interesting for the Welterweight division in the company.
Islam Makhachev is on a thirteen-fight win streak in the UFC, and with a win over Poirier, he will take over the win streaks of several legendary fighters.

Islam Makhachev is running out of options when defending his belt inside the octagon. Makhachev has beaten almost every other primary fighter in the cage. He claimed to jump to Welterweight to take on Leon Edwards in the cage. But as it turns out, Belal is set to challenge Leon for the belt in Manchester, England. In an interview with Weighing In, Islam was quizzed if he would jump to Welterweight if Belal becomes the champion,

Islam clarified that it would be difficult for him to fight his teammate and close pal Belal. Muhammad and Islam are on the same team and have the same manager. Makhachev clarified that he would not be interested in a fight with his teammate and pal Belal Muhammad anytime soon in the octagon. Islam is unsure if he wants to get into a rivalry with his teammate.
Islam Makhachev, in the interview, revealed that Arman Tsarukyan deserves the next title shot in the cage. Tsarukyan has beaten almost every other fighter in the octagon and deserves more than most for the title shot. Tsarukyan was offered the title fight before Dustin Poirier but rejected it because he did not want to take on Islam on short notice. It will be interesting to see who will be the champion shortly in the Lightweight division.
